Speaker Spotlight: Maria A. Jose

Another of the country’s most respected bloggers who will speak at the BlogFest SOCCSKSARGEN 2010 is based not far from the shores of General Santos City. The bloggers’ group that she currently leads maintains close ties with the SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers, which makes her a frequent visitor to General Santos.

MARIA A. JOSE, or Ria, will deliver the State of the Philippine Blogosphere Address on the BlogFest SOCCSKSARGEN 2010.

Maria finished her undergraduate studies at the Philippine Women’s College of Davao, and took up a Certificate Program in Cooking and Baking Basic Skills at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in 2009. Her food blog, Kusina Maria, was judged as Mindanao’s Best Food and Beverage Blog in the recently held Philippine Blog Awards for Mindanao in Zamboanga City.

Ria describes herself as a professional multi-tasker. She has been blogging since 2004. She started with an online personal diary in January 2004 and started her political blog in July 2004 upon the encouragement of her cousin, Andrew dela Serna. Ria currently writes for and maintains multiple blogs in several niches: politics, entertainment, food, beauty and fashion, gaming and sports, and technology.

She is a legislative researcher and speech writer, and writes for SunStar Davao as a lifestyle columnist.

She has given talks about blogging at iBlog, Youth for IT, the Cebu Blog Camp, the Visayas Blogging Summit, and in various schools and colleges.

Ria is the Marketing Officer of Avatar Media, a new media company that specialized in Web Development, Content Management, Blogging Events, and Social Media Marketing. She is currently the President of Davao Bloggers and is part of the organizing group of Mindanao New Media, of which the SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers is one of its founding organizations.
